We’ve had that background anxiety because we haven’t seen Girlie, the beautiful Kaaawa Husky, the last couple of times we’ve walked by her house in the morning.
Girlie was one of those dogs who just loved to escape and prance through the neighborhood following her nose and her imagination. We had found her wandering and returned her home on several occasions. That’s how we got to know her people, who invited us in to meet the Pitsky puppies a couple of years ago (here’s another look at Pitskies as they grew up). Girlie was always in a good mood and, if I was slow with the dog biscuit, would deliver a studied howl as a reminder of her interest.
Yesterday we got the sad word that she did her “escape and wander” trick one time too many. She was hit and killed instantly along Kamehameha Highway just a short block from her home sometime last month. Her people have been watching for us to let us know the news. Yesterday we connected.
I found the last set of photos I took of her. They were taken on June 2. I know we’ve seen her at least once since then. But no more.
Aloha, Ms. Girlie.
