Monday…LA Times on a Big Island cult, study abroad, reflections on command, and overdue morning dogs

August 20th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Dogs

Thanks to Ryan Ozawa for catching this link to a Los Angeles Times story of a 1970′s cult apparently seeking a rebirth in Hawaii.

Inside Higher Ed points to a New York Times story on university travel abroad programs, which apparently could be afflicted with the same conflicts of interest as the student loan programs recently so much in the news. This is one of those where it would be prudent to check out how things are done at UH and other Hawaii campuses.

I noted this Washington Post story on Karl Rove’s skilled manipulation of official announcements and high-profile trips as political assets in a campaign context. It reminds me a lot of Gov. Lingle’s exploitation of the same types of official business.

Local blogger Shannon Lowrey has shared some photos from recent travel to South America and beyond. Interesting sights worth checking out.

And this thought came from former neighbor Bob, now living in Kaimuki, who pondered “how to win the Presidential Medal of Freedom”:

another strange than fiction story
on the political sci-fi channel

i was just reading this news article
and i wonder what became of brig general karpinski
from Rahway, new jersey
did a google
demoted !
sent back to paint the Pulaski Skyway for life

found this quote from her

“And Bremer comes back,
$8 billion is missing,
and he just simply says it was a war,
we’re not always accountable.”

this stuff
makes life is too easy for Doonesbury
and Tom Tomorrow

from the article below
you wonder what deal was made with this Lt Col

he can’t defend himself without implicating
General Pappas, Military Intelligence
he was under his direct command

who was under direct command of
General Sanchez
the big boss at the time

both instructed by General Miller of Gitmo
who was ordered to Iraq by Rumsfeild

both miller and rumsfeild created their horror show
based on legal opinions of Gonzales

what is more sci-fi
taguba was instructed by the army’s vice-chief of
staff
to retire by january of 2007.
no explanation was given

these forced retired generals from hawaii
could start their own veterans organization

Dog day

With all of the attention going to Ms. Kitten and to taking special care to attend to each of the older cats as well, our many dogs of the morning haven’t had much mention recently. Yesterday I gathered up some of our most recent dog photos and got them ready to share. Please click on this photo for the full gallery of August dogs.
