I have to give special mention to Jim Dooley’s fine story in this morning’s Honolulu Advertiser, which probes the dominant role of a single company in engineering contracts awarded by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
The company, now known as Community Planning and Engineering, has landed a vastly disproportionate share of contracts from DHHL since the beginning of the Lingle administration.
A quick scan through professional services contracts listed on the state procurement web site immediately turned up this list from 2007 contracts, which includes a number of new contracts recently awarded to the firm.
In any case, Dooley left few stones unturned in digging into the background of these contracts. It’s a pleasure to read this kind of in-depth story.
It helped to make today’s Advertiser outstanding overall.

Wow, thanks for directing us to Jim Dooley’s article. I’ve been impressed with his work in the past, but this tops it all.
