As our friends who visited for the weekend were leaving this morning for town and eventually the airport, I was slaving on catching cats and moving them down the street along with their supporting exhibits (cat food, litter boxes, odor remover, towels to put down for them to sleep on, etc).
Our friends, looking at all the work involved in transporting the felines to safety, said…”I guess right now you wish you didn’t have nine cats.”
“No,” I replied without thinking, “I wish we didn’t have termites.”
Ah, friends will say. Proof of that cat parasite going straight for the brain! (See yesterday’s post if you miss that reference).
In any case, move accomplished. I’m in a little garage apartment down the street with the four females. Wally is in her carrier, crying every now and then, and refuses to come out. Harriet is out and anxiously exploring the place looking for a means of escape. I saw Annie briefly before she disappeared under a couch. And I haven’t seen Ms. Kili since I opened her carrier and she slipped out. I assume she’s under the bed or in some other mysterious corner. Hopefully they will all make an appearance when it’s time to return home tomorrow.
Toby, Romeo and Duke are out back in the gazebo, originally built to house feral cats our former neighbors were caring for. When I last visited them over in that corner of the yard, Toby and Romeo had claimed spots on the upper walkway that runs around the inside of the structure, while Duke had a spot on the bench that runs along the back. I put a bowl of food down as well as some water, and they are calm but escape minded. Hopefully the door will hold.
I’ve deployed multiple cat boxes here inside, and left one for the boys to share.
Of course, there were holes in our planning. I have coffee but no coffee maker or coffee cups. I do have glasses for wine tonight. No plates or implements, so Meda’s “forced” to visit a couple of thrift shops to pick up a couple of fill-ins.
Meanwhile, I’ll just relax here in the land of crying cats.
