I’m just out of bed early to check the numbers…amazing. The turnout was nearly eight times the previous record, some 37,000+ for last night’s caucuses vs. the previous reported high of around 5,000. It was amazing.
Here are just a few quick images from our District 47 caucus at Kahaluu Elementary School. Normally a lazy affair with maybe 100 participants, last night was an overflow crowd that outstripped the space and all available resources. It looks crowded in the photos, but there was still a long line outside and some people had already voted and left the scene. Party volunteers did the best they could to retain some semblance of order amidst the madness.
And here’s a short video clip of the crowd sometime around 7 p.m. Give it time to download, please. Or dial-up users can try this Real Media link provided by Jeff Garland.
Here’s a photo taken while I was posting one of last night’s first entries from the parking lot of Kahaluu Elementary, courtesy of Susan Schultz, who also has several other photos from the evening.

What a great little video clip! It gives a good feel for those who were not able to attend. All that talent in the room hoping to “change” the direction the country, and the state, is moving.
Certainly that talent can be tapped beyond simply asking for their votess and their contributions? Obama gives me a chance to hope, but let’s build a real movement from the talent in that room! If Obama moves in the same direction as the movement, we will have a synergistic effect! If Obama hesitates, a strong movement can lend him some backbone. If Obama settles for too little, we can demand more.
No politician is an adequate substitute for a movement. And even the best of them need to have a movement pressing them to do better.
Anyways, I love the clip!
