It's rather like amateur hour. but amateur hour is what "you" get with safe districts. And if there is a lesson here it is that there are too many "safe" districts. Why would Ann do this without having someone in mind to take her seat? So now you have Bainum and Caldwell running and Caldwell's seat going to a Republican since no Democrat thought Caldwell would run for the council. Well, that's one way for the Republicans to add to their numbers in the House, I suppose. So Ann's last minute action (whether calculated or not) resulted in the Republicans gaining another seat in the House with no effort whatsover. Doesn't sound like it was part of an overall plan. I can't imagine she would vacate it otherwise. Problem is, that doesn't leave any time for any other potential candidates from a different "camp" to get their ducks in a row. The only people who could be in a position to file at this late hour are those who already have either 1) money for a visible campaign or 2) a strong constituency already or 3) both!
