Ordering a brand new 1939 Dodge Coupe

September 16th, 2009 · No Comments · John Lind Collection

[text]The week before Christmas in 1938, my dad, John M. Lind, ordered a brand new “Squadron Green” Dodge Club Coupe from the factory through the Glenn E. Thomas Company in Long Beach, California.

Total price, FOB factory= $917

Delivery date was “on or about Feb. 1, 1939.”

According to the order form, he traded in a 1936 model for $450, and was to pay the balance in cash.

Friends picked up the car at the factory and drove it across the country to California. It was then driven onto the Lurline with a trunk and a couple of surf boards for my dad’s move to Hawaii a couple of months later.
