Poof! The tax credits to Hollywood are up this a.m.

April 27th, 2012 · 1 Comment · Legislature, Politics

That bill to restore/extend the film tax credits is being rushed out into view this morning in a last minute conference committee meeting.

The vehicle turns out to be HB 2869, HD2, SD2, with the great title, “Relating to the Economy.”

House Conferees: Representatives Choy/Oshiro, Co-Chairs; Marumoto
(ERB, FIN)

Senate Conferees: Senators Fukunaga, Chair; Ige/Kouchi, Co-Chairs; Wakai
(EDT, WAM)

A late report says the 9 a.m. session has been deferred until 1 p.m. while lobbyists work feverishly to push further lucrative changes for the film industry. Senator Fukunaga reportedly trying to push the industry position.

To tell the truth, I can’t figure out if this slips in some of what Relativity Media was seeking or not, but it clearly pumps a lot of public money out to the film/digital industry and its investors.

Cut school buses, but feed the 1%.

It may be a good investment but it doesn’t sit well.

Our legislators think they are celebrities (comedians?) so this tax credit stuff is simply professional courtesy.
