Feline Friday: It’s five cats cold

March 15th, 2013 · 2 Comments · Cats, Photographs

Five cats coldIt’s been cold this week. How cold? Well, this was a five-cat morning. The number of cats wanting to be on the bed varies inversely with the temperature. That’s a basic law of cat physics.

If you’ve never lived with a cat, you may not know that they are natural heat seekers. They must be able to see into the infrared spectrum, since they are quick to find hot spots that are far from obvious.

Way back when we lived on the 4th floor of a round apartment building in Kaimuki, we only had two cats. Can you believe it? Anyway, one of our cats adopted a spot on the floor in the small kitchen as her favorite. It was only after a while that we realized that there was a ceiling light in the apartment just below us that radiated heat up through the floor. Just enough to warm a cat.

Cat’s also like small spaces, which Ms. Kili is glad to demonstrate in today’s photo gallery.

Good grief, if they’re heat seekers, you must not be getting much sleep when you’re in bed on these cold nights! No room!

The group “Three Dog Night” got their name from Aussie slang for a very cold night.
