Dick Schmidt, a recently retired news photographer, commented:
What a wonderful photographic moment you recorded with your "Sundae Communion" photo of the ice cream wagon. (Plus, the title is a killer, too.) The photo is a "textbook" example of the oft-overused photojournalistic term "moment." Everything is in place in the tightly-composed image: the colors, the menu board, palm fronds, even the simple words "Waikiki Delight" on the buyer's shirt. But the "moment" is what it's all about: the hands transferring the sundae from seller to buyer. In much the same way as a hula dancer's instructive hands convey a story, the hands of these two people --their gentle, respectful, transference of the desert delicacy from one to another-- gracefully tell a warm story through your photo. Nice work. Nice moment.
