For those of you who aren’t up early enough to watch the sunrise, or maybe are already trapped on a freeway and unable to appreciate it, here’s another bit of a typical Kaaawa morning.

A surprise in the back yard

When I’m short of cat photos for Feline Friday, I take a camera with me out into the yard in the mid-to-late afternoon. The cats follow. I feel liked the Pied Piper, with the camera as my magic instrument. The cats seem to know that they’re going to be on camera, and they enjoy it. Or maybe they just enjoy getting crazy in the afternoon sun. Who knows?

In any case, it’s nice to discover other things out there in the yard, like this beautiful heleconia. Conditions must be just right over in that corner of the yard, because this plant is large, thick, and obviously very happy.

A dramatic start to Meda’s birthday

Gusting winds and the threat of rain greeted us this morning as we stayed on our regular early morning schedule to celebrate Meda’s birthday.

Actually, we’ve been celebrating since last weekend, when we snuck off to Maui for two days to visit with old friends from Canada. Today’s weather looked dramatic, delivered a couple of rainbows, but we managed to finish the 3-mile walk without significant precipitation.

“At least it’s not snowing,” Meda correctly observed.
