trial1-2
We were represented by attorney Robert Gilbert Johnston, known to the world as Gil. Born and raised on Aiea Plantation, Gil returned to Hawaii as director of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii in the late 1960s, then returned to private practice. Among his clients was The Hawaiians, an early Hawaiian advocacy group, which had been backing Sonny Kaniho's attempts to push reforms within the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
