A quick look at our Christmas celebration (so far)

WreathWe enjoyed a relaxing Christmas Eve which included a brief visit with my father at his nursing home and then our family’s traditional Christmas Eve celebration with my mother and sister. Click on my mother’s wreath for a few more photos.

Today, more of the same. We’ll stick around home most of the day, drop off gifts for a few neighbors, then have Christmas dinner with a friend and former neighbor who now lives down the road in Kaneohe.

All in all, a lazy day.

It would be difficult to get my dad into the car and then out and up the stairs into their house. But harder still would be handling all the emotional hurdles to getting him back out again and safely back to the nursing home. Although he doesn’t always remember it now, he would rather be at home. But there is no way that we are capable of caring for him there. So we inevitably find ourselves on occasions, like Christmas, trying to avoid reminding him of home. This is very difficult, but the option would be far more difficult.

Your mom is a very young-looking lady for her age. Fantastic and remarkable that she can cook an entire meal, for we know that requires planning, organization and timing.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Your mom’s handiwork (wreath and cooking) is a testament to her big heart! Your family looks very happy, and I’m glad you were also able to bring some Christmas to your dad, tangerine and all. Your sister definitely pulled the Hawaiian side!
