Speaking of art…An inventory of Honolulu’s city-owned art

The city’s latest inventory of its art collection was filed earlier this month by the Mayor’s Office on Culture and the Arts.

The inventory identifies 949 individual pieces of art, their current location, and condition.

Photos of the art can be viewed online via the Culture and Arts web site, which provides several ways of searching (by artist, description, name, etc).

Hey, now that we have nice pictures of the artwork, perhaps the city should follow the example of Kamehameha. Help take care of that budget crisis by melting down the pieces made from precious metal and sell the rest at auction. Just hang the pictures instead!

surprised and disappointed no one else connected the dots and alluded to Ian’s previous post re; the lack ( or at least very low ratio) of indigenous Hawaiian artists represented and supported in this program.
