iPhone upgrade

I stopped at the Apple Store in Kahala yesterday to find out what the wait is for new iPhones. I thought I might order replacements for both of us.

I ended up leaving the store about an hour later with two new iPhone 4’s, activated and ready to go. Wallet all lightened up.

Now comes the process of syncing with all of our accumulated data and apps. The first round seemed to go smoothly. Calendar and contacts transferred properly. Data for some other apps didn’t, so I’ll have to go back this morning and try to figure out what failed there.

Overall, this is a very nice upgrade. These phones replace our prior 3G phones, which were two generations behind. So the new phones seem very fast, which is always nice.

This is sure to waste a bunch of time today.

I needed to jail break my older iPhone in order to hear phone calls by making use of Cydia’s volume booster download for the earpiece so I am curious as to the stock earpiece volume on the newest iPhone. Can you hear clearly on the new iPhone?

You do know about the antenna problem? Apple is giving away “jackets” for the iPhones so your thumb won’t bridge the tiny gap in the metal strip along the edge of the phone.

This strip is the iPhone’s antenna and placing your thumb or finger across that gap can reduce signal strength significantly. The jacket or case will insulate the antenna and prevent it from being shorted.

Okay, there are plenty iphone 4s phones at Kahala store, just as Ian tells us, but no more cases free or otherwise are included. It is easy for me to kill the signal once outside the store. Maybe I am all thumbs. And, I still find it difficult to hear the phone calls as the earpiece to me, seems not loud enough. There are only 16 gig phones left at Kahala Store as supposedly, I bought the last 32 gig model. Still, I think, all in all it is the best phone going. That’s why I bought it today. Once jailbreak arrives I can volume boost the earpiece and start talking in places where presently, outside noise makes it hard for me to hear. JL

James, sounds like a Bluetooth headset would be helpful to you. I find that the new phone is plenty loud for me, but if you’re in a high noise area, hearing any phone would be a problem.

The antenna problem won’t manifest itself in places where the signal is strong enough. It’s when you’re in those other places.

Good for you, Ian. I bought two and we are very happy with them. Couldn’t wait – stood in line for four hours to get them on the first day. 🙂

jailbreakme.com a simple one step now allows Cydia’s many non-official programs to function on the new iPhone 4, including ear-piece volume boost for those needing it, wifi hot spot by ROCK, free of course, free Face Time on 3 G with no Wifi needed for those wanting it and a host of other time saving and clever programs.
