It’s been a long two weeks for Mr. Romeo.
He injured his right rear leg on Sunday, January 23. He showed up with a very pronounced limp, one of the “Ministry of Silly Walks” gaits (do click on the link if you’re not familiar with the silly walks!). It was apparently the result of a fight, judging from the nicks and scratches on his head and shoulders. But no obvious injury on that back end.
A trip to the vet resulted in a “nothing broken” diagnosis and a recommendation of cage rest. Well, we settled for house arrest. The limp persists, improving at what seems a glacial pace.
Romeo is not happy about being house-bound. But with any luck he’s healing.
In other cat news, Mr. Silverman was tested again yesterday and his insulin dose has been raised again, this time to 6 units of Lantus, twice a day. That’s a 20% boost from where he had been most recently. I’m somewhat anxious about his situation, since he’s an older cat (now at least 12 years) and having a more difficult time coping with the diabetes. I’m now studying up on home glucose testing, trying to decide if I’m up to that challenge. We’ll see.

We have begun using a glucometer to monitor our diabetic cat’s glucose levels. We are finding that our readings differ significantly from the blood analyses that our vet does. I will follow up with an e-mail to elaborate on some the issues.
Glad to know that Romeo is mending.
