Biden on corruption, and the elevators are running (for now), and more

With Meda off to Boalt Law School at UC Berkeley for several days, I was asleep early last night and up early this morning.

I quickly spotted a headline. Something about VP Biden telling Russia that corruption is holding back progress.

Whoo whoo! You mean the administration is finally getting serious about cleaning up Wall Street?

Then I read the lead paragraph, and realized Biden was talking about Russian corruption. I guess it’s the old pot & kettle thing. Too bad.

But there was good news about those elevators at UH Saunders Hall yesterday afternoon.

This communique shall serve to notify you that I was just notified that the Elevator Company was able to bring Elevators 1 & 2 back into service at Saunders Hall this afternoon. The Elevator Company continues to work on Elevator #3, but at this point, we have two out of the three elevators returned to service. Please let me know if you’ve questions and/or concerns in these regards.

Of course, having then running and keeping them running are two different matters, as long experience has shown. We’ll see.

Here’s an interesting item about secrecy of the FDIC, apparently the only one of 20 federal agencies that refused to turn over records of employee travel.

And here’s an interesting list, “The 10 Best Industry Blogs,” from the Risk Management Monitor. The list includes a blog about political risk, and another on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Happy browsing!

Ironically enough, i rode the elevators for the first time yesterday after nearly a year away from Saunders. An observation of note: “Sustainable Saunders” now “Help Us Bridge” has delamped the elevators, leaving something like 2 of maybe 10 bulbs (varying wattage) remaining to light the cab. Ive been told that this is “pono,” and compliant w/ industry standards, but id beg to differ…
