How about a No Fly Zone over Hawaii political terrain?

This intriguing suggestion arrived in an email from a friend.

Is there any way to impose a moratorium of a year or even nine months on discussion/speculation about the election for the Akaka seat in the U.S. Senate? Can we avoid seeing every waking deed and word of every possible candidate over the next year and a half in terms of the campaign for Senate? This morning, Borecca had nothing more important to say about politics in Hawaii than to warn the Democrats not to take the race for granted. As if.

Is it any wonder the population as a whole has a cynical view of politics and politicians and that we are bone tired of the whole subject by the time we do not go to the polls in droves come November? I suppose there is no way to see politics other than as some kind of a horse race or to discuss it other than in sports terms, but is there a sport on earth that has a two-year season?

Sen. Akaka had the choice of announcing he will not run early or waiting as long as possible to avoid saying anything on the subject. He did the right thing for himself (saving himself endless speculation about why he was not acting sufficiently like a candidate) and for the state. This way, Sen. Akaka gets two years of respect and adulation. Good for him, I personally think he deserves it. But must the rest of us be cursed by month upon month, week upon week of meaningless political “commentary” and cheap speculation?

You betcha, pardner, It’s called selective attention. Divert your attention from that which you would want to ignore. Works wonders. Unless of course, one prefers complaining.

Yeah, right. We should just leave our political selection process up to the back rooms at the Democratic Party precinct meetings where it’s supposed to be done.

None of this is trivial. We must prevent a Republican from taking this seat. The government is being used by people who hate government to destroy our Federal government and therefore our great nation.
We must prevent a republican from taking this seat. An early notice by the Senator gives Patriotic Americans and Hawaiian Citizens time to stand up and participate in the election process. That friends is your assignment to get and stay involved.
The exact Democratic candidate remains to be seen, but we must prevent this seat from falling into the Republican camp, to be used by selfish people to destroy our country!
Consolidate to save our great nation. It will be a local election of National importance.

At least it serves the purpose of selling the paper and maintains a certain level of conversations at the office water cooler.

Not to mention the money flowing to pollsters.

    Other than that? Meaningless.
