This in from an old friend regarding Safeway Stores price guarantee:
Hi Ian,
Thank you for telling us of the semi-secret policies of Safeway. Today my wife got a good sized bucket of ice cream FREE, after being overcharged and getting the store clerk to read the policy.
Fantastic!! Thank you again,
Take care
Thanks for the feedback.
Don’t miss out on your chance for some free products from Safeway.
Check your receipts. Know the price guarantee. Demand your rights.
And much to my surprise, my most recent column about Safeway remained #5 on Civil Beat’s “most popular” list this morning, 12 days after it was published. It’s apparently an issue that has legs.

As suspected, Safeway isn’t providing gift cards to its patrons out of the goodness of its heart, or even to promote good customer service, rather it is doing so pursuant to a California Court order imposed on it for overcharging customers.

Which makes it attempts to conceal the “refund policy” even more galling.
