A Portland Soundscape: “Life is but a dream….”

One more bit from our visit to Portland.

This is a quick and dirty version of a 70-second recording made as Meda and I sat in front of the Multnomah County Public Library right in downtown Portland waiting for it to open.

As we were walking over, there was a man behind us whistling and singing, “row, row, row your boat…”

He appeared to be someone living on the streets, and his tune was somewhat soulful.

When we got to the library, he was coming up behind us. I turned my phone to record as he passed by. You can hear him coming, then one of Portland’s light rail trains passes by. As it passes, you hear him again, whistling. Meda comments on the library opening, then the singing gets louder as he passes, and tapers off as he goes up the stairs to the library just as the doors open.

If I can figure out how to clean up the audio, I’ll make another run at this. In the meantime, this version will have to do.
