Before stocking up on tissues and taking Toby on his last journey, we had our living room set up as a kitty hospital room, so he could be out where we were eating breakfast and getting ready for the day. When I got the camera out, he responded, looking up for one last photo. You’ll have to click through to today’s photo album to see that shot.
Aloha, Toby. You were a very fine cat!
The other cats were a little perplexed by his absence. They probably still smell his scents but not his physical presence. And they’ve been just a little “off” since he’s been gone. I presume we’ll all get back to a semblance of normal soon.
The last time we had a population of just three cats was in mid-1988, when we bought our house in Kaaawa. And these are three geriatric cats. So things seem a bit quiet right now.

Aloha Ian and Meda – condolences on Mr. Toby – and thank you for sharing him with all of us all these years! I feel most fortunate. Peace and aloha. m
A good life, well lived.
You guys did good. Mr. Toby had a warm and loving home for 15 years. He had the company of other cats so he was never alone. Condolences for your loss. Toby will be missed on Feline Fridays.
Sorry to hear about Toby, Ian. My condolences to you and Meda.
purrs of condolence to you all?
I am saddened by the news of Toby’s passing and sorry for your lose…Toby looked almost identical to my favorite cat, Jojo so I seem to have reacted with a bit more angst than I might normally feel. I will definitely miss him.
Condolences to you and Meda, and the feline ohana. Toby was a lovely cat who lived the life of Riley, choosing the best possible home in which to live. The fact our lifespans, compared to cats’, leave us the ones to mourn and say good-bye, is one that God or Nature could revisit, if so moved in the future. Meanwhile, we all aim to say aloha to our pets with the grace you have shown.
