Feline Friday: Swept away by events

I’m sorry to report that this Feline Friday has arrived and caught me woefully unprepared.

This photo of the boys–Duke and Romeo–is my sole image for the week, at least as of early Friday morning. Well, not the only image, but the best of a series taken at the same time.

However, I do have an excuse. Meda, my wife of many decades, had total hip replacement surgery on Wednesday. This week–and last–have been a blur of preparations, surgery, and the initial stages of recovery. She is doing very well so far, but as you can imagine my attention has been focused elsewhere than cute cat poses. Although I do wish there had been a camera within reach when we went to bed last night. The boys climbed right in between us, and went to sleep together. Romeo was in front, closest to me. He went to sleep with his head on my arm. Duke was behind him, and dozed off with his head resting on Romeo. Usually Romeo wants sole possession of the bed, so this was quite different and very sweet.

Luckily, apart from that bedtime scene, the cats have been very good at staying just out of the way. Meda spent one night in the hospital and then returned home yesterday. The cats have a lot of respect for the walker that she’s using to get around the house, so cats under foot have not been a problem. Hopefully, it will continue that way.

And I’ll be trying to keep cats in mind so that there will be a full set of cats next Friday.

Very best wishes for speedy recovery for your wife. And, I’m not surprised that the boys crawled into bed, together, with you both. When I was recovering from cancer surgery, my kitties never left my side — even the one that never was a lap kitty …never crawled into bed with me. Cats are sensitive. They know 😉 Aloha to your wife.

Wow. Best wishes to you and Meda. I hope the hip replacement works beautifully and doesn’t laugh cryptically or anything. (Ref: Alexa in recent news.) John

Wait. THAT’S why Civil Beat stopped taking comments and started soliciting letters to the editor instead, isn’t it? Because of dumb comments lkke that. Sorry. The hopes for speedy and smooth recovery are real, though.

John, I liked that comment! One does wonder if the hip replacements are smart and in the know (i.e. hip).

And so it has come to this: us aging hipsters and hippies, now beat(up)niks, are ready for hip replacements.

Like you, I send my hopes for a speedy, smooth recovery.

My best to Meda for a speedy recovery. Hip replacement (from what I’ve heard) is not pleasant but the end results are well worth it. Better dust off your dancing shoes and tennis racket.
