Feline Friday: The Ides of March

So here we are. It’s mid-afternoon in Hawaii on a lovely Friday in March. And I’m just getting around to sharing this week’s Feline Friday photographs with the world.

It’s been a tough week in the cat world. Duke experienced another glucose crash. Sometime early Tuesday morning, his blood glucose plummeted. By the time I awoke, about 5 a.m., he was staggering around the kitchen. A quick test showed his normally high blood sugar had dropped to just 40. Low blood sugar is considered a medical emergency! I had to quickly get some sugar in him, followed by food, and several more tests monitoring his glucose levels over the rest of the day, and for the next two days.

So he had dropped to 40 on Tuesday morning. On Thursday morning, by contrast, his glucose measured near 600. It’s hard to think of what could cause such dramatic swings, and the danger of sudden low glucose makes it hard to establish a proper dose for his twice-daily insulin shots.

We’ll be back at the vet tomorrow. The mystery continues.

Other than that, there were lots of afternoon naps (as you’ll see in the photos that follow).
