4th of July, 2002

A short distance, just down the block and around the corner, from the house in Kaaawa where we lived for just over 27 years.

The scene says a lot about Kaaawa, Hawaii, and the 4th of July.

Lovely pic. A photo of a place and people I can believe in. And best of all, “no tanks!”

    Mahalo.

The fourth is a weird celebration in Hawaii. Kailua and places with transplant military, they were yuckin it up with the Marine Corps band and fireworks. Elsewhere I saw Hawaiian flags flying from trucks and people saying this was a sad day and no cause for Hawaii to celebrate.

These stark contrasts are ignored in the news. Weird to have people celebrating in one community while many communities feel hurt and sadness.

Many in Kailua didn’t attend the parade. Evidently those in the military still buy into propaganda. Others now think that the flag now stands for aggression and oppression. Trump spits on the US Constitution! The most patriotic action would be to impeach a Trump.
