What about Mr. Marbles?

The message came in late Saturday afternoon from the person who rescued Kali from a colony at the top of Aiea Heights, and then offered her up for adoption when he read that we were thinking about getting another cat. Kali joined our household back in late September, and has proved to be a really good cat.

Anyway, here’s the message.

Forgive me if I’m being presumptuous but there is a sweet young adult male up in the park that is quite friendly at feeding times and he follows me around and just seems so jovial.

Well upon further discussion with some of the other caretakers, one of them seems to know more about him and says she’s talked to guy that abandoned him in the park and it turns out to be the same guy that dropped off Kali. Additionally, it’s been told that he’s Kali’s son!!!

We can catch him and see how he does inside away from the park. If you would like him to join your family that would be amazing but naturally, no pressure to do that.

His name is Mister Marbles and he’s an orange guy that’s chipped and neutered already.

I didn’t see the message until Sunday morning.

Stress! We have talked in theory about another cat that Kali could play with, but worry about Romeo’s place in the pecking order has held us back. But one of Kali’s offspring? That’s an offer that is going to be tough to walk away from.

Then came photos and a few short videos. along with a message relayed from another caretake at the same colony.

“He definitely is a great candidate for a house pet. He comes for petting and eats from hand now that he knows me. He even lets me pick him up.”

And then this:

I just remembered that I have seen Kali and Mr. Marbles together just a couple of times right before we pulled her from the park. Marbles showed up at the picnic area entrance. They trotted closer, and were rubbing and loving on each other. Really heartwarming to witness and also sad that we had to separate them.

What are we going to do?! Do we try again at integrating a cat colony rescue?

Fascinating color patterns. Easy to see why he’s called Mr. Marbles.
It would be fun to see whether he and Kali pick up where they left off.

Maybe on a trial basis, say, a week? With a ‘plan b’ in hand in case Romeo doesn’t adapt? He *is* Senior Cat, and deserves the consideration I see y’all are giving him. But Mr. M looks mighty tempting…

    1. You know how to run a multiple cat household. 2. You are way cat deficient in your household now. 3. She has likely, with sadness, given him up for lost. 4. He has never stopped missing his mother. 5. You want to be able to sleep with a clear conscience. 6. You know what to do. 7. What are you waiting fir?

Kali has come so far and this would be wonderful for her. Romeo will just have to have more me time with you to make up for MM.

OMG, how amazing is that whole situation… Mr. Marbles and Mommy Kali will very likely keep you and Meda so amused with their antics!! I’m sure he’ll integrate into your household just fine, and yes, it will be Romeo’s excuse for more attention from you!!

There is the off chance that in the new setting Kali and Mr. Marbles do not get along as much as they once did. Also, you might need to keep Mr. Marbles in a spare room by himself for longer than you expect because of the stress to Romeo.

That being said, I think that you should take him in. Absolutely.
