Happy Anniversary to us!

Hey, it’s our anniversary! But I should explain. This year is a little different.

That day has rolled around again here in New Zealand, where it is August 15, although it hasn’t quite arrived yet in Hawaii, where it is still the 14th.

We arrived Tuesday night in Auckland, New Zealand. Well, Tuesday night on the Hawaii calendar. Here in Auckland, it was Wednesday night. Crossing the international dateline means that we missed most of Wednesday.

And, here in Auckland, today is August 15, our first full day here and our anniversary. We’ll celebrate while wandering a bit around the city, as we often celebrated back home (click here for an example).

Tomorrow, when it’s the 15th back home, we plan on celebrating again! I guess there are advantages to travel, and the double celebration is one of them.

This is what I posted back in 2012.

July 1969: “Lunar module has landed on moon.”

Happy Anniversary

August 15, 1969: Ian & Meda get married.

OMG! That’s so long ago! Just look at the old black-and-white television in my sister’s house that we gathered around to watch the moon landing. It would be a cool antique today. Just like us, I suppose.

Anyway, click on the photo to fly back in time to our big day. The photos are vintage 1969. Proceed with caution.

And Happy Anniversary to us! Now we just have to figure out how to celebrate.

Congratulations on so many years together! A friend who recently took an Australia – New Zealand cruise cautioned about buying honey in New Zealand for omiyage? She didn’t know why, but she wasn’t allowed to bring it back.
