Yes, Israel is committing genocide Gaza

This criticism of reporting by the NY Times is from the organization Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, known as FAIR.

The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) passed a resolution on August 31 declaring that Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, with 86% of voting members in agreement.

The declaration by the group, described as “the world’s biggest academic association of genocide scholars” (Reuters, 9/1/25), was widely seen as significant news. Prominent US media sources like CNN (9/1/25), NBC (9/1/25), ABC (9/2/25), CBS (9/3/25), PBS (9/1/25), NPR (9/2/25), AP (9/2/25), Time (9/1/25) and Newsweek (9/1/25) published stories on the IAGS resolution. They bore headlines like the Washington Post’s “Israel Is Committing Genocide in Gaza, Leading Scholars’ Association Says” (9/1/25). So, too, did numerous international news sources, with the BBC (9/1/25) running the headline “Israel Committing Genocide in Gaza, World’s Leading Experts Say.”

But the New York Times (9/1/25), which has repeatedly come under fire for its bias against Palestinians during Israel’s two-year-long rampage in Gaza, buried the news in the 31st paragraph of a story headlined “Israel’s Push for a Permanent Gaza Deal May Mean a Longer War, Experts Say.” The article immediately followed the brief mention of the IAGS resolution with a response from the Israeli government that called it an “an embarrassment to the legal profession,” and “entirely based on Hamas’s campaign of lies and the laundering of those lies by others.”

Thanks for your courage, Ian. Of course Israel is committing genocide abetted by USA/UK and other countries. NYT long ago lost any sense of credibility. But the information is available. Unconscionable!

I’ve traveled to Lebanon and Jordan, and met with some amazing Palestinian people. Ninety-nine percent of your readers would call me conservative, but what the government of Israel has been doing to these people is inhumane. The anger they have toward Israel did not materialize in a vacuum.

Israel has made mistakes in this war no doubt, and I do agree that innocent Palestinians are being hurt (killed) in the process. On the flip side, not enough attention and focus is being brought to the fact that Hamas started the war on October 7th by killing innocent Israeli civilians (1000+) and abducting many (200+). This war could end tomorrow if Hamas agrees to lay down its arms and no longer attack Israel, and to return all the hostages. Let’s also not forget about Iran who is pouring millions of dollars to support Hamas and Hezbollah in their evil attempt to eliminate Israel as a country. The stated goal of these organizations and country (Iran) is the elimination of Israel as a country (and also the destruction of the United States).

Hamas is evil at its core. Per the Geneva convention prisoners of conflicts, are to be taken care of, and not starved to death or ill-treated or even killed. Yet this very thing has happened and continues to happen. When there is a cancer, we need to treat the cancer and not the surrounding symptoms. Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah are a cancer with pure evil intentions, so please do not forget this.

It is sadly ironic that a Jewish state is ignoring international laws and all humanitarian considerations in an attempt to achieve a “final solution” that appears to involve the elimination of an entire population?

One other thing to note is that prior to October 7th (when Hamas mercilessly attacked Israel) both Israel and Iran were sending millions of dollars to the Palestinian people. Hamas took this money to build tunnels and weapons to use against Israel. Imagine how this money could have been spent for the improvement of the people’s lives? Let’s hold Hamas accountable for the many atrocities (and suffering) they are putting their own people through (not to mention innocent Israeli civilians who are also caught up in this mess).

I dropped my subscription to the NY Times a while back after realizing their pretend attempt at appearing “neutral” and “unbiased” was just a cover for feckless spinelessness.

The article that sealed it for me was an opinion piece by Rich Lowry, editor in chief of the National Review, entitled “Trump can win on Character” (Aug. 2024). Talk about a pile of pure crap that tried whitewashing a despicable, traitorous, lying con artist whose clear LACK of character was already very well known to ALL sides of the political spectrum.

Normally I *get* that opinion pieces are just that and a “good” news outlet publishes different viewpoints to stimulate thinking and allow readers to form their own judgements, but to me this article was unforgivable, propagandistic trash that really didn’t add value at a time when this country was on a precipice. Heck, even conservative writer Bret Stephens and his endless rah rah cheerleading of Israel’s genocide in Gaza is presented in well thought out, analytical writing that doesn’t show slavish devotion to Netanyahu.

There are equally good publications out there if not better ones to get news from and I haven’t looked back since.

Wow. NEVER thought I would see the day that Ian and his liberal friends would all decry the most liberal newspaper in the land. Just amazing. Makes me smile.
