We wondered how our four cats would respond when we walked into the house on our return to Honolulu Tuesday night.
We didn’t manage to remain silent as we came in through the garage, and then unlocked the door from the garage into the house. So the cats had at least some warning.
Here’s a short, rather chaotic, and unedited video of what greeted us as we opened the door and walked in.
Hint: Kali was more interested in checking out the garage than she was in welcoming us back!

I’ve really enjoyed following you folks on this sometimes strange adventure – you both weathered each new challenge with the admirable hutzpah! I know the journey is taking on a new and different direction now, but I’m confident you’ll weather it well and come out fit and recovered. You’re both just that kind of stalwart people. Wish I had met you in person while I was still your Old Kahala neighbor, but thankful I joined the journey when I did.

Ian: As you know cats are not as demonstrative as dogs upon seeing their humans, its explained that because dogs have been domesticated longer, they know how to show affection by tail wagging, licking, and jumping on their owners. Our cats are much the same, but they do come to the door usually, and will come when called after a long absence, especially if their hungry !
Proves further: cats are independent.
All look well taken care of.
What a joyous reunion! Except after so many weeks apart, Kali thought there were intruders on the premises!
No, Kali has a strong desire to patrol the garage a few times, and then sleep on the roof until we summon her inside. She is known to haunt the area in front of the door waiting for someone to open it and let her run out. It seems to make her happy. But she didn’t do this while we were gone.
Aaww they’re so happy to see you! Thanks for sharing your homecoming video. Welcome back! Our cat likes to slip out into the garage too, luckily we have a garage door so have to remember to close it before opening house door.
Exactly the same at our house. The garage is like an air lock. Cats can get into the garage, so we never open the door into the house unless the garage doors are closed.
