Election Eve table

Our dinner table on election eve, that is, not yet another data table with analysis of polling stats. We were ready for an easy meal, and this was just about perfect.

We started out with a pouch of this chicken tikka masala sold at Costco. It was in the freezer, and I pulled it out to thaw earlier in the afternoon. In my experience, it is surprisingly good.

In any case, I added some Whole Foods multi-colored carrots, and sliced a few mushrooms and dropped those in, along with a handful of raisins. Heated until the carrots were cooked. And I served it into bowls over roasted cauliflower with olive oil, garlic, salt and ground pepper.

Meda prepared some toppings–chopped peanuts, cilantro, hot pepper jelly, bacon bits, and a chopped hard-boiled egg. Then a plate of tomatoes, olives, and baby carrots, with a little dip on the side.

Served in vintage shallow bowls by Blue Ridge Potteries, Blue Ridge pattern. With a bottle of red wine.

It turned into quite a feast, culinary and visual! Click on any photo for a larger view!

Tracking where your next meal might come from

Longtime blogger and all-around techie, Ryan Ozawa, left the following info as a comment. I’ve decided to give it more exposure by reprinting it here.

There’s a whole movement trying to encourage people to patronize restaurants for their delivery or take out services (or even buy gift cards) to help them survive.

I started an open crowdsourced directory:

And the data was used by the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation to launch a more professionally curated list:

Okay. So now it’s hopefully easier for you to find and patronize a local restaurant offering to go or delivered meals! Chow down!

Elks Club in Waikiki offering take-out food service on weekends

Although the Elks Club on the edge of Waikiki is currently closed, they’re offering take-out food service from their kitchen on the weekends. This is an experiment, so if there isn’t much interest, it might be discontinued.

But we stopped by today and picked up a salad (for Meda) and a burger (for me), and both enjoyed a fine lunch!

Here’s the announcement emailed to members, but you don’t have to be a member during the current crisis.

A question of taste

I asked this question over on Facebook, and thought I would repeat it here as well. It’s simple.

Costco has the greatest bargain vodka. There’s an American distilled vodka for $12.99 for the 1.75 liter bottle, and a French vodka for $19.99 (at least I think those are the prices). Both under the Kirkland label. Both are inexpensive. The American product is ridiculously inexpensive. But which is the better vodka? And which is the superior bargain? Any opinions out there? What do you think?

Thanks in advance for sharing any opinions.
