State senator, who cares, he’s a blue-eyed haole

Whoa. Larry Price sure stepped into it the other day during an interview with Senator Gary Hooser. The Advertiser’s Derrick DePledge described the rather intense interaction and today caught the the reaction.

What in the world was Price thinking? Or, perhaps more importantly, why did he say what he was thinking?

DePledge quotes KSSK’s general manager:

“Larry Price would like to apologize for the inappropriate personal comment directed to Senator Hooser during Friday morning’s interview,” Chuck Cotton said in a statement.

But so far, I haven’t seen anything from Price itself.

And one of those instant polls (what station was that?) reported 39% of viewers siding with Price and saying he owed no apology for his comments.

I think we’d better add this to the “Hawaii’s got some ethnic conflict to deal with” file.

Was there too much hype?

After all the media hype over Don Ho’s celebration in Waikiki yesterday, the event itself appears to have been something of an anti-climax. From today’s Honolulu Advertiser:

“It was pretty much a normal Saturday — except for the hype,” said Luke Golden, a lifeguard at a tower near Queen’s Surf Beach, which stayed open until dark last night. “I’ve seen more people (come out) for Sunset on the Beach.”

Was this all blown out of proportion by the media? I’m keeping an open mind on that question.
