Maleke, a 102-pound Rottweiler who lives around the corner, is also appearing here for the first time. For a couple of months I've been sneaking a dog biscuit through the fence into his waiting jaws as we pass by. Then today, for the first time, I was invited inside the fence for an official introduction. There were a few tense moments, since he is strong enough to knock me over by accident or intention, and he was trying to decide just how far to go for another doggie treat. A bit intimidating on first meeting. "If he jumps on you, just knee him in the chest," advised Carol, his person. Right.
