Rally at Iolani Palace: All Hawaii Stand Together
May be the first "Sovereignty Sunday", January 16, 1977
(or perhaps an earlier rally in the Spring of 1976)

| I don't recall details of this event and, unfortunately, have no other records. At first I thought it was in 1976, not long after the first protest landing on Kahoolawe, but others recall it taking place in January 1977, when supporters of the fledgling "movement" gathered at Iolani Palace. It was marked by the first public performance of Liko Martin's song, "All Hawaii Stand Together", which has become an anthem for parts of the sovereignty movement. If you recall more specifics about the event, please pass them on. >Ian Lind (ian@ilind.net). |
