| Emil Louis Kruss was a friend of my grandfather, Duke Yonge, for some forty years. Kruss was proprietor of the Hotel Wahiawa, advertised at the time as a rural retreat "only 90 minutes by train from Honolulu".
At the time of his death in January 1948, Kruss still had a barometer which had been manufactured by his family's company in Hamburg, Germany, around 1860. I found this photo of Kruss in a small stack of papers that had been saved first by my grandfather, and then my mother. Now that I've established contact with the Kruss family in Germany, I'll be returning these photos and papers to them. |
