No, I’m not ready to tackle the results of the special election yet. They’re just about what most Democrats feared. Maybe there will be something to say after looking at the precinct-level results.
But now, something really important.
Leo’s ghost.
When our Alpha-cat, Mr. Leo, died early last year, we thought it was the end of our cat pee problems. Yes, we have had problems. Leo was the main offender. Somewhere in his complex little cat brain, this must have made sense. But after he was gone, we have had the return of the mystery cat that pees in the back corner of the kitchen counter, back past the coffee maker and over by the toaster (which is protected by a plastic cover, the product of experience).
The problem is, we don’t know which cat has this particular “issue”. None have been caught in the act.
Yesterday afternoon I moved the little Axis security camera from it’s vantage point in the living room to a temporary spot in the kitchen, and aimed it back into that corner. You can see the camera in the upper right of this photo. It’s attached to the valance that hides the lights.
Then I fiddled with the motion detection software to try and get a setting that will be triggered by the entry of a cat into the area without being on constantly. It’s unfortunately turning out to be a little bit of trial-and-error.
Last night, we left a light on so that the camera could do its job. It caught Duke making a 1 a.m. check on one of the (empty) cat bowls in the general vicinity, but he didn’t do the other deed. It doesn’t eliminate him as a suspect, though.
Now we’ll let the P-Cam run all day and hopefully i.d. the suspect.
I hope it’s not be a ghost.

Hindsight is 20/20 – I did not receive a ballot by mail for the special election for the 1st Congressional district despite the fact that I am a registered voter and voted in the last regular election. I was so disgusted with the split in the democratic party that I didn’t care. Just wondering whether other registered voters did not receive a mail ballot. Wondering if the Office of Elections/City Clerk’s office have a paper trail showing whether each registered voter was mailed the special election ballot.
please be sure to let us know what happens with the cat camera…
