This was the scene last night as we had a quiet Thanksgiving dinner at home. Ms. Harry, also known as Harriet, bellied up to the bar, so to speak, to see if she could share in the bountiful meal.

There was, as it happened, a lot to go around. Safeway had been running a promotion offering a free turkey to shoppers spending over $100. We never hit that mark, but friends who happen to be vegans did. They got the turkey, all twenty one pounds of it, put it in their freezer, and offered the dead bird to us. On our return from Atlanta, we gladly accepted.

And Harry was glad that we did.
