It’s Feline Friday, and time for another dip into the crazy world of our Kaaawa cats. That’s a very relaxed Mr. Duke displaying his rather prodigious belly. In the background, Harriet relaxes in a cage and seems to totally ignore Duke’s antics.

There’s a story here. Recall that our super duper neighbor, David, who has been cat sitting for us for years, recently moved into town So we’re desperately trying get a new cat sitter ready to take care of the cats when we aren’t here. That involves feeding, which is pretty simple, but also (hopefully) giving Duke and Kili their twice daily insulin shots, which would allow them to stay at home instead of boarding at the vet when we’re out of town. Ms. Kili isn’t a problem, but Duke is shy when new people are involved. Translation: He tends to hide when someone he’s not familiar with comes into the house. And if he hides, it’s hard to give him a shot.

We have Plan A (introduce the new cat sitter so that he gets used to her,), and we also have Plan B (unfold the portable cage and keep him confined, as he would be if he stayed at the vet).

So we were going to experiment with Plan B. I got the cage out,set up a nice little bed in it, and Harriet promptly strolled right in and went to sleep. She’s occupied it most of the past two days, making it hard to see whether it will work for Duke.

Anyway, that’s what’s up in our world of cats.
