Feline Friday, Halloween Edition

October 31, 2025.

It’s Halloween, and I tried to get the cats into the mood for costumes and spooky stuff.

That was an utter failure for which I should be awarded a purple heart because of my injuries.

But, just for fun, I requested an assist from Google’s Gemini AI assistant, which quickly produced these images.

I started with Kinikini, who made a very presentable lion, and then had Kiko join me for a broomstick ride over our neighborhood!

They turned out well enough that I added the two calicos, Bessie & Kali.

Giving careful instructions to Gemini was much easier than trying to get cats to into funny outfits!

Look closely at the witch flying over Diamond Head with Kiko. Gemini was able to follow instructions put me on that broom!

And, with that out of the way, back to Feline Friday and this week’s photos!

Kinikini looks good even without the lion outfit.

Enjoy!

Feline Friday: Halloween Edition

It’s a sunny Feline Friday here on Kealaolu Avenue

What do you know! They’re here again. The cats, that is. Our cats. You know, the spoiled ones that used to live outdoors in a cat colony on the other side of Honolulu, always hoping someone would feed them, but now are suddenly very picky about the variety of canned cat foods that I serve them. I think it’s just a power play on their part. Generally, it works. They are in control.

So they have learned to share. Kali and Kiko share the Amazon box, which continues to maintain its alure. Kiko is the only one that sleeps on the Scratch Lounge, but she lets all the other cats stop by for a bit of scratching throughout the day. And although Bessie is the main occupant of the top shelf in our pantry/storeroom with the view out the window, Kinikini switches places with her for part of each day. While he’s up there, Bessie gets to sleep on “his” chair in the living room. And they all rotate through the afteroon sun spots at this time of year. I would like to say they share them, but there’s often more physical intimidation involved in claiming the best spots. Somehow, at the end of the day, it all works out.

So come on in and check out the cats!

Cats are said to be a natural antidepressant, so prepare to be undepressed

Welcome to Feline Friday.

Our cats are fortunate. They can’t read the news, and they don’t understand what they hear on the news.

There’s little good news.

But I can offer up some cat pics to sooth your nerves. At least for a few minutes.

On Thursday morning, I once again found myself needed another photo or two of Ms. Bessie. And I knew where to find her. Yes, in exactly the same place where I caught up with her last week at the same time for the same reason.

That’s a long-winded way of letting you know that I didn’t simply slip in a photo taken a week ago. No, I retook almost exactly the same picture. Same cast, same spot, same light. But a week later.

In any case, just follow the link to the rest of this Feline Friday.

Feline Friday provides a brief respite from the week’s stress

When I sat down Thursday morning to assess the cat photos I’ve taken the week, I was definitely short.

So I grabbed the cammera and a fast 50mm lens, and went hunting for additional poses. Luckily, I found Bessie up in one of her favorite spots, up on the top shelf in our pantry/storeroom where she can see out a window while feeling safe from being picked on by Kinikini (yes, he still chases her from time to time, but not as frequently as before). This turned out to be my favorite cat portrait of the week!

But you may not agree, and that’s okay.

The Amazon box and the scratch lounge both retain their appeal. I had to flip over the cardboard insert after I realized the top had been thoroughly ripped up. And last week’s infusion of new packing paper in the Amazon box has been carefully processed and reducted to bedding once again.

And I know I’ve mentioned that Kiko, like Kinikini, is kind of a biter. She tries to nip me when she’s happy, when she’s soliciting more interaction, when we’re in a full-on petting session. Oh, one other thing. She drools. When she’s happy. And it’s kind of a morning routine. We come back from our walk over to the beach for the sunrise. I’m usually a little sweaty. I get a cup of coffee, sit down at the dining table, and check my email. Kiko comes careening onto the table, usually (but not always) manages to avoid knocking anything over or off the table, and then squeezes down so that she’s in my lap, wedged between the table and my body. Once I start the appropriate petting, she starts drooling. She always faces to the right, and I can feel the drops of drool that hit my leg and drip down to the floor, and I can see the wet spot on my shorts where other drool ends up. I’ve learned to take evasive action when these moments of ecstacy lead to attempts at biting. It’s not always successful, and I have the wounds to prove it. But soon she decides that sitting on a window sill and watching for birds or geckos has become a higher priority.

So it goes in Kahala. Please proceed to the cats!
