Little Jake is a ball of energy. Every once in a while, he almost levitates!
Today I managed to catch him during one of his spontaneous leaps into the air!
This was not at the top of his jump, but somewhere on the return towards the ground. I’ll just have to keep trying.
To start the week, here’s Marvin, who looks as innocent as can be, but his person warns me that Marvin is “a handful.” He apparently burned through several homes before being rescued by Kevin, who has managed to handle his quirks. And Marvin is also very handsome, don’t you think?
And, by the way, the sun came up again this morning! Whew.
We were gone for 9 days visiting winter (a less than successful visit, I should say), and while we were away the cats were well cared for by our cat sitter.
Bessie is the only one that comes out to enjoy the personal attention of the cat sitter. Both Kinikini and Kali retain much more of the wariness learned during the time they spent living in a cat colony at the top of Aiea Heights. As a result, they both tend to stay out of sight when we’re gone, emerging from their hiding places to eat only when it’s “safe” and no one else is around.
We returned about 9:30 Tuesday night, walked in the door and into the kitchen, and called for the cats. Kinikini was already out in the middle of the living room, waiting and watching with great interest before running in my direction for the first of many pets. At the same time, Kali emerged from under a chair next to the television, and also came our way. As we greeted those two, Bessie surprised us from the other direction, where she must have been in one of her napping spots in our storeroom/pantry.
I think it was no more than 12-15 seconds before all three of the cats were out to greet us and accept lots of attention in return, as well as an extra meal as an extra reward!
That’s a huge change from early trips when this generation of cats took nearly a half hour to come out of hiding and register their presence.
I do have several cat cams around the house to check in on them while we’re gone. I can usually find Bessie, and Kali. But Kini is only rarely caught on camera. During this trip, the first casualty was the main camera in the living room, which appears to have been knocked to the floor as Kini chased Bessie off her spot on a chair next to the television. It appears she scrambled away and, in the process, knocked the camera from its spot on a small table in the corner and onto the floor. It did provide a nice view of the dirty floor back there, but was out of service as a cat cam.
In any case, the cats have stayed close to us since our return.

Strong winds this morning, and a bit of misty rain blew through after sunrise.
On our way home, we were treated to this wonderful rainbow. I had to shift to my iPhone’s wide angle to capture the scene properly!
