Sunday. Time for a break.
It’s been hot, humid, and overcast the past several mornings. I can’t tell yet whether today will follow this pattern. It’s still humid, but there’s a slight breeze.
Sunrise today will be at 6:02, so it’s still a little early (at 5:25 a.m.) to get any sense of what that’s going to be like.
But it really doesn’t matter. Every morning is a beautiful morning, when you get right down to it.
I received this email a couple of days ago.
Maybe you’re interested to know that you’re ranked at #4 on the Hawaii top 75 in blogRank.
This list tracks close to 20,000 blogs and evaluates them based on 16 different factors. The algorithm we use is far superior to any other, IMHO. It just took us over 8 months to develop this. I would love to hear your feedback.
I hadn’t heard of this ranking system before, but a quick look found that it was announced back in May.
It’s interesting, but I’m still not sure what to make of it all. Comparing blogs of such different types, subjects, and resources is difficult, and the factors that go into the overall ranking have drawn lots of critical comments. Blogs rise and fall quite a way in the ranks depending on which of their technical factors you look at. In other settings, you would take that as evidence that there isn’t much agreement on just what should be measured, and not much reliability between different attempts to measure the influence and weight of different blogs.
So I take it with a big grain of salt at this point, but it makes for an interesting list nonetheless. I’m still working my way through the list looking at Hawaii blogs I wasn’t previously familiar with.
I ran to get a camera after serving up our meal last night.
It started out quite simple. We bought a bag of potatoes earlier in the week, so I thought mashed potatoes sounded good. What to go with them?
I ended up with chicken breasts. First I chopped and browned an onion, looking ahead to the rich color and taste that would add to the meal. Then I browned the chicken, added garlic, hot pepper, a little water, covered.
Cut the pototoes and put the pot on the stove on high heat, set timer for 30 minues. Reduced the heat after the water boiled.
Meanwhile, I stirred the chicken periodically, added liquid as necessary (a little white wine along the way, along with water). Just before the potatoes were done, I chopped a bunch of fresh basil and added that to the chicken.
Meda made up a picky plate of canned asparagus, little tomatoes, and artichoke hearts.
White wine to wash it down. Ms. Kili was on the table just out of view.

Why does this blog require me to enter my password sometimes? Good thing I saved it in My Documents, because it is a very difficult password to remember.
Anyway, congrats on having your blog listed in most of the categories. You should be proud. Of course, being around for 10 years helped to develop a readership.
You must log into your account in order to leave a comment. It’s a small way to control having the comment section disrupted by spammers.
Hopefully it doesn’t deter you from participating.
If you’re asked for a password elsewhere when visiting the site, send me the specifics and I’ll try to decipher what’s going on.
