As promised, this week’s Feline Friday photo gallery is a bit more robust than its predecessor.
I’m featuring Mr. Romeo because he’s our latest “victim”.
Yesterday it seemed that all the cats were around in the morning. Then my mother and sister arrived about 1 p.m., and the cats scattered. They somehow disappear when other people come into the house. You could visit and never know that we have cats, except for the layer of cat fur on things and the litter boxes set in strategic places.
Several hours later, after we had stuffed ourselves, exhausted various topics of conversation, then staggered outside to waive goodbye as our guests headed off for the drive back into town, suddenly the cats quickly emerged from their hiding places. All except Romeo. I didn’t notice his absence until it was time for their evening meal. Cats were swarming in the kitchen. But when I got to Romeo’s dish, no cat. Since Romeo and food have a close association, his absence was worrying. I made several passes out around the yard and down our little street, calling for him. No luck.
He didn’t reappear until about 8 p.m. Food was his top priority. Second priority was to just curl up in my lap and go to sleep. Highly unusual. I think he must have been in a fight, although I’m not finding any obvious injuries. That’s the only time he has acted like this in the past. A big adrenaline surge, a fight, then a big let-down.
Then I recalled that Romeo came in smelling like he had been spending time out in the field in front of our house. The scent of grass and leaves was pretty strong. Was that a symptom that he had strayed and gotten in the way of a wandering cat? I’ve tried interrogating him with success.
So I’m keeping a close eye on Mr. Romeo this morning to see how he’s doing. Luckily, if needed, I have a supply of antibiotics to stave off infection. We’ll see.
In any case, just click on Romeo’s photo, or on the link below, to see the rest of this Friday’s Felines.
