The University of Hawaii’s Hamilton Library has a growing collection of digitized documents and images that is worth browsing.

I spotted this 1951 photo of the entrance to Queen’s Surf in the Margo Duggan Collection, which spans Ms. Duggan’s work in Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia. These were snapshots, not the work of a self-conscious photographer, but they capture a number of remarkable images. I like the shots of the interior of the women’s rest room at the Royal Hawaiian, also in 1951, the lei vendors on Kalakaua Avenue across from the Waikiki Theater, and the photos of old apartment buildings in Waikiki, complete with addresses.
