These cats don’t give a hairball about the so-called royal wedding. It just shows how smart they are, doesn’t it?
Anyway, there are lots of great photos to share on this Feline Friday after a good photo session yesterday afternoon. We got home a little early and, seeing the camera, several cats followed me out into the yard.

After the yard adventure, Ms. Kili poured herself back into the shoe box. I can’t throw this away, since Kili still considers it a favorite spot. I’m not even sure how log it’s been sitting on the floor in the living room. It’s probably been a couple of months, at least. It’s stayed on the “very popular” list for far longer than any commercial cat bed we ever tried.
Hmmmm. This week I went shopping for some different cat food options for diabetic cats. This means high protein, low carbs. Duke and Silverman have been getting Hill’s Prescription Diet M/D, canned and dry. It’s both low in carbs and designed for weight reduction. But cats also like variety. So there I was in Petland in Kahala, looking at a large selection of high protein cat foods. I had already picked up several cans of EVO, which Silverman likes. Now I was staring at bags of dry food with a variety of unfamiliar labels. There are a surprising number of varieties to choose from.
I finally selected two small bags of Orijen for a test run. One is “regional wild-caught fish formula,” and the other is “regional poultry, fish, and whole egg formula.”
The young woman who checked me out raved about this brand, saying she had personally tried the fish formula and decided it was okay for her cat.
I have to say that these are both hits with our cats. Even Mr. Silverman, who has been picky about his food this week, dived right in to a serving of the fish formula.
So now I’m juggling various foods, trying to keep the cats happy, healthy, and continue to cut a few ounces here and there. It’s a tough balancing act.
I did weigh the cats this week. Here are the results in pounds, rather than pounts/ounces.
Kili 14.13 (down .2 pounds since October)
Wally 11.65 (down 1/2 pound since October)
Harriet 9.58 (also down 1/2 pound)
Toby 14.95 (down 12 ounces since October)
Annie 8.76 (she gained half a pound!)
Romeo 16.95 (down 3/4 pound since October)
Silverman 13.78 (down from his previous 16 pounds, but holding steady since his diabetes diagnosis)
Duke 17.125 (up a pound since October)
The overall diet has been aimed at Toby & Duke. It’s working, although slowly, with Toby. For a while, he was too chubby to clean his rear end. That was not pleasant. He can still stand to lose a few more oz’s. And Duke? I measure out his food at each meal, and feed amounts well within the manufacturer’s “weight loss” guidelines. But he still manages to go the way. So he’ll be the focus for a while. I think his weight creates insulin resistance, which blocks us from getting his diabetes under control. So it’s a battle.

I live in the country (on former Galbraith land). Last week my neighbor said that there was a cardboard box of kittens on the edge of the camp. We walked down the road and sure enough there was a big cardboard box with 5 or 6 two-three day old kittens. They started mewing and crying as soon as we picked up the box. I called the Hawaiian Humane Society and they said they send someone right out. We had a prior engagement so left them by our mailbox and they were gone when we got home.
Mahalo to the Humane Society – they truly deserve our support. And shame shame shame to anyone who would abandon babies like that. (I already have two so couldn’t keep them myself. Not everyone can have a family as large as yours!)

Yup. She said you can taste the fish. So when the Republicans destroy pensions, social security, and Medicare, we can all share the cat food.

Our cat loves the Orijen food. We got a sampler from a pet store, and we’ve never looked back. The “upset cat stomach” has all but disappeared since this food came on the scene…

Just calculate the horrendous costs of your first pre-trial inter-species post-nuptial fur-flying divorce court proceedings for the first opening day after the first Prayer Friday holding a civil court session! Unless you’re literally an empty 2 liter plastic Coke container that the nicest of dogs (by day) was lethally attacking outside my place when she wasn’t engaged (no pun) in periodic “bark at me will you!” stand-offs in the long night’s journey into darkness with multi-source strays, you are just marital Prince Liver Meat!
