After an unusual spike in visitors yesterday, I tracked back to a photo of the burglar’s backpack posted on IMGUR, which had been viewed over 235,000 times as of this morning, and the resulting 900+ comments on Reddit.com debating various theories of the tools and their uses.
The comments are a strange mix of off the wall and apparently well grounded. What’s clear is that an open-ended question, like “These are the contents, what was he making?”, generates a whole lot of interest. There’s a lesson of some kind there.

Maybe the intruder was planting bugs, not stealing. Wisconsin Republicans are monitoring university phones and email there. Why not here?
I’m the one who posted the links to your post and the photo on reddit; hope it was OK….
That was a great idea. Thanks.
You should watch the movie “Street Thief”. It gives a great look inside the mind of professional thieves.
This reminds me of one scene in the movie where the thief cleans ALL of his tools to make sure they have no fingerprints before the burglary. You never know when you might need to drop everything and run.

The Republican Party has devolved into a nationwide conspiracy of extreme-right whack jobs. There’s no reason to assume that the ones in Hawaii are any more rational than the rest of them. Their patron saint is Gen. Jack D. Ripper.
