Another 60-seconds in Kaaawa

Happy Father’s Day.

We started this day, like most days, with a walk to the beach. At this time of year, it’s just after dawn. Later in the year, we are on the beach for the sunrise.

This Father’s Day is different in one respect. It’s the first since my father died. Meda and I talked about it a bit yesterday, but it remained in the background this morning, an absence, a hollow feeling just beyond the normal range of perception.

And then there’s my main Father’s Day recollection involving our unplanned adoption of Mr. Leo back in 1999.

“Happy Father’s Day, pal!” You’ll have to read Leo’s story to understand.

In any case, begin this Father’s Day as we did with a minute of silence, on the beach in Kaaawa.
