Ms. Harriet welcomes you to the year’s first Feline Friday.

She’s posing here with “The Illustrated Cat,” a late Christmas present my mother delivered when she visited us in Kaaawa on New Year’s Day. I’m guessing that it was found at a garage sale, because Ms. Harry had to give it a pretty good sniffing before deciding it would be allowed to stay.

In any case, it’s now about 5:20 a.m. Toby did the wake-up call this morning, and there are seven cats milling around the kitchen and dining room, where I’m writing on my laptop, all focused on the food that will shortly appear in their dishes. Ms. Harry isn’t among them. She’s downstairs in a room of her own, so I’ll have to take her breakfast down to her.
