My mother gave us a wonderful Christmas present this year–a small envelope addressed by hand to the late UH Professor Carey D. Miller from Bess & Huc Luquiens.
Inside were several small cards handprinted by Huc Luquiens and sent as Christmas cards to personal friends. This selection were dated from 1947 through 1954.
The one below is dated 1947, the year in which Meda and I both entered the world.
My mother taught nutrition and studied under Carey Miller in the late 1930s and early 1940s, and the two remained close friends until Miller’s death.
A city director printed a few years earlier listed Luquiens at a Kahala Avenue address, so perhaps the scene is looking out his window towards Kahala Beach.
As always, click for a larger version.

In any case, his prints are wonderful reminders of Hawaii in an earlier period.

I grew up on the beach at Kahala at 4523 Kahala Avenue. Mr. Luquiens rented a cottage across the street from us. I remember Mr. Luquiens as an old man. Today, I am probably much older than he was then.
Can we see the rest of the cards?
