Water off at 4 UH Manoa buildings on first day of classes

Either UH Manoa doesn’t believe in “truth in naming,” or someone has quite a sense of humor.

Remember that today is the first day of classes for the fall semester.

And an alert was emailed out few minutes ago from the “Facilities Management Work Coordination Center.”

Short version: Water in four major campus buildings is being cut off for “emergency” repairs, meaning that rest rooms will not be available.

Here’s the brief text:

This email is to inform you that there are emergency repairs in the area and the water will not be available until the repairs have been completed. The restrooms will be closed by the janitorial staff. Please inform all faculty, staff, and students that may be affected in the following buildings.

Hawaii Hall
Dean Hall
Crawford Hall
George Hall

Mahalo for your kokua.

It’s been a long summer of construction and infrastructure repairs on the Manoa campus. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume this “emergency” is somehow related to all the work that has been done in what looks like a series of related projects. There’s also the student center construction that has been going on and on and on. I could be wrong to be so suspicious, but….

Anyway, happy first day of classes sans restrooms.

Hawaii Hall is where the Manoa administration is. Sort of fitting although it would have been even better if Bachman were unable to flush.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT: How is your sister doing given the out-of-control fires in the Greater Yosemite area? obviously, we cannot help her and her neighbors directly, but is there an organization we can make $$$ donations to provide food and meet other basic needs?

Their corner of the fire was stopped before reaching the area where she lives. The fire line was nearby, but firefighters were able to hold the flames. Late saturday those who evacuated were told they could return to their homes.

It looks like the fire has moved on and is threatening other areas.

Bonnie and Groveland/Pine Mountain Lake were very lucky.
