It’s that time of the week again. Welcome to Feline Friday. I stocked up after last week’s photo shortage, so I’ve got a full complement of Friday Felines today even though I’m still in Atlanta. And Mr. Romeo is leading the way.

Romeo and I have worked out a compromise. For those unfamiliar with the problem–he’s been getting in fights trying to keep a neighbor’s black cat from spending time in our yard. After several vet visits, he’s been on restriction. Here’s the new routine. He gets to go outside unescorted for 10-15 minutes in the morning after we get back from the early walk to the beach. Then I track him down and bring him back inside to be rewarded with a serving or two of canned cat food. He likes that. Then when he fusses to go out again, he instead gets the alternative–some time in my lap. He’s happy.

On a really good day, we’ll be home in time to let him out for another yard foray in the late afternoon, although he’s more likely to meet up with black cat then (I think it’s close to his feeding time).

Isn’t it interesting that some cats become lap cats as they age. Other cats never learn about laps.

In our current cohort, Romeo has become a serious lap cat, as is Ms. Wally. Harriet occasionally has a little spasm of lap desire, but it quickly passes. Duke also wants to be in a lap only occasionally–like maybe once in 2-3 weeks, and he doesn’t stay long. Toby and Annie never sit in a lap, although both are happy to curl up with people in bed.

So it goes in our small world of pampered cats.
