Feline Friday on Saturday: Better late than never

If he weren’t otherwise occupied, Mr. Romeo would welcome you to another “Feline Friday on Saturday.”

Yes, delays are unfortunately more common at this time of year. The problem is the sun. Or the lack of it. With sunrise still after 7 a.m., we don’t leave our house for the walk down to the beach until about 6:40. This means we don’t get back home and in front of a cup of coffee until just before 8. And that leaves little blog time before the commute into town on most weekdays. Hence, an occasional slip in Feline Friday.

Yesterday was actually more my own screw-up. I had photos selected and ready, but then forgot that they needed to be posted.

To those deprived of the timely arrival of their weekly feline fix, I do apologize.

Now, on to the cats.

Do you remember the scene in the classic film, “The Three Amigos” where Luck Day, Steve Martin’s character, is philosophizing about El Guapo?

Lucky Day: In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!

And that’s where Romeo finds himself. In the photo below, that’s Romeo, on the left, looking out onto our deck. And out on the deck, back against the railing, is Black Cat, the one that has become Romeo’s El Guapo. Romeo yowls, Black Cat quietly watches. And so it goes.

The problem is that Romeo finds it impossible to go out into the yard without going in search of Black Cat and facing off with him, something that usually ends in claws and fur flying. Several expensive vet bills later, Romeo has been involuntarily retired from the fight club. He’s now almost a 100% indoor cat, except for the few, cowering steps he has taken in his new harness.

For now, though, Romeo stands guard and, every now and then, Black Cat actually enters the picture. He just sits and watches. I think Black Cat would actually like to join our feline household, but Romeo wouldn’t put up with that.

Mr. Romeo

So we’re now to the harness.

Recall that the first several times Romeo was fitted into his fancy blue harness, he dropped like a rock. Boneless cat unable to take even a step. Then there was a breakthrough. One step. Then he dropped. And so on.

But this week he managed to make it out to the edge of the back yard. It took a while, as he would take a few steps, then require much coaxing to take another few steps. He was happy to reach the back, where he got to look for Black Cat and roll in one of his favorite dirt spots.

So here’s a glimpse at Romeo in his regalia.

Romeo

Now, are you ready for the rest of the cats?

It was astute of you to explain Romeo’s situation in terms of Los Tres Amigos/El Guapo. I am still thinking through all that Los Tres Amigos/El Guapo have to teach us.

Would it not be correct to compare LTA to Fresh Leadership, LLC, which, as you informed us recently, the State Office of Information Management and Technology wants to hire for $375,000 to, in the latter’s words, do “organizational change management training development of strategic operation plan and leadership development”? (I don’t know what happened to the all the commas there. Maybe thinking and writing without commas is the agency’s real problem.)

It seems that both LTA and Fresh Leadership, LLC goes into a place and offer their analysis, guidance, consultation, and action. And, come to think of it, doesn’t it seems likely that Fresh Leadership, LLC itself occasionally must hire some Los Tres Amigos to offer them analysis, guidance, consultation, and action?

My husband and I went to Univ. of Colorado with your sister. As she sometimes refers to one of your blogs, I have found myself checking your blog site daily. More often than one might expect, I find something of interest in your writings – even from way over here in northeastern Illinois.
We have three cats, too, so it goes without saying that I follow feline Friday very closely.
Keep writing; you and Bonnie are gifted when it comes to putting words on “paper.”

Mr. Mike: First of all, as someone who is often called upon to edit in a corporate environment, I see these wild concatenations of adjectives and nouns all the time. The use of the word “strategic” embedded somewhere in the pile is usually a good clue that whatever thought the author is trying to convey has the clarity and substantiality of vog.

Second, your analysis of consultants seems on the mark to me. I see many consultants as the beneficiaries of a welfare program for those who haven’t the skills or talent to make anything anyone might ever use. No one wants to see these people homeless, so I don’t begrudge them such a program, but somehow things have gotten out of control. Their welfare payments often exceed the wages of those who actually design and do.
