It’s another Feline Friday, but I had to admit to Ms. Kili that I’m short on photos and short on time this morning.
This is being posted “on the road.” We had to leave home this morning early to get Meda to a criminology conference in town. That early departure left me with no time for last minute photos to fill a Feline Friday gallery. I feel guilty about leaving some of you Feline Friday addicts suffering withdrawal symptoms for the rest of the day. With a little luck, I will be able to add more photos tomorrow.
There is some good news to report in our cat household. We switched Wally to Prescription Diet A/D, a canned food meant for “critical care” and convalescent cats (& dogs). I mix it with extra water, heat it just a tad. Then with some appropriate coaxing and “food pets,” Wally eats. When she stops, which is usually earlier than I would like, I wait ten or fifteen minutes. Then I find Wally, hold the dish up in front of her, and then stroke her back lightly until she starts eating again. Usually she will finish the dish in two or three tries. Anything left is up for grabs, and usually a line of other cats offering their cleanup services. The result is that Wally has eaten more than she has in quite some time.
I think this is a high calorie diet, designed to get nutrition into a sick cat. It’s working. We’ve stopped her weight loss, and I think she’s gained a few ounces. Not much, but enough to feel different when I pick her up. There’s a bit more filler along her backbone, and she feels better. After her long, gradual decline, that’s huge!
The rest of the brood is normal. Romeo is harassing Toby, since he still hasn’t been able to get outside to chase Black Cat off the property. Kili remains Queen of the Bedroom, whether she’s taking the prime nap spot on the bed by the pillows, or demanding to be plopped up into the dresser drawer where my things are. Duke, meanwhile, has emerged from his hiding place under a chair in the living room and is acting like a normal cat.
Ah, cats!
More cats tommorow.
